Hello Barbara--Congratulations on this important step! I don't know the area well enough to be able to suggest certain agencies of type of agencies, but I think it will be important to just start contacting people. I recommend you focus on your intended target audience/market, search through the yellow pages and online, then start contacting the agencies and facilities that serve your target markets. Hope this helps! Best of luck ~Kimberly

Hello Caroline--You do have some options. I know music therapists who have a side business teaching private lessons and others who work as teachers and have a side music therapy practice. Best of luck! ~Kimberly

Hello Danielle--I think it is possible. Most music therapy programs require an audition to be admitted to the music school. In addition, the clinical training will include teaching you how to play clinical guitar and piano, so you are covered there. You can find a list of schools by visiting www.musictherapy.org Good luck! ~Kimberly

I have composed a music therapy business proposal; but I am not sure what agencies to contact to apply for the grant money. I live in East Lansing, Michigan where the MSU Music Therapy Department was discontinued, recently, due to lack of college funds. They have closed down their music therapy clinic which gives me an opportunity to start up my own private music therapy studio. I have never applied for grants before. Do you have any recommendations of agencies to contact?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Kimberly! I am a junior in high school right now and i am musician but helping people is also very important to me. So I flipping through on my future colleges website :) and I saw this and I was like this is the prefect thing for me to do. I play the viola and I used to play the violin and im going to be learning the cello and piano pretty soon. My singing skills are somewhat good. I also wanted to be a music teacher so I was wondering if this was also something I could do on the side of being a teacher?

I'm not much of a reader but I picked up Sing You Home because of all the buzz in the music therapy community. I'm loving it and have been reading consistently - a goal of mine - to read a book all the way through! I think House Rules is going to be my next book! Thanks for the reviews!
