2014 Social Media Advocacy Month Kickoff

by Kimberly on January 2, 2014 · 0 comments

Today marks the start of one of my favorite times of year: it’s Social Media Advocacy Month! For the past 4 years, music therapy bloggers and podcasters have banded together throughout the month of January to talk, write, question, share, and advocate for music therapy. This project is part of the collaborative AMTA/CBMT State Recognition Operational Plan, a national iniative to get the music therapy profession and our MT-BC credential recognized at the state level.

The theme for 2014 is “we are…” as it relates to exploring and honoring our identity as a profession that is distinct and unique from other professions. This topic has emerged as a result of our discussions and advocacy efforts over the years with legislators, state agency officials, and the public. Throughout the month, be on the lookout for blog articles and podcast episodes that explore our identity as a unique and valuable profession from the perspective of those who work in it.

I will be posting updates on this page throughout the month of articles and podcast episodes that relate to this project. I invite you to check it periodically and to share these posts with your friends, colleagues, and clients. There are bound to be some interesting and potentially thought-provoking articles from our colleagues in the field! You can also keep up with the latest happenings by following (and using) the #mtadvocacy hashtag on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram.
