Thanks for the insider tips, Kimberly... I've been wondering about all those online ad options. (and, of course, thanks for the shout out).

To add to your 'sell your own products' section: Getting the funding together to invest in a physical product can get expensive (when you want to do it right) and take some faith. That's why it's best to find a partner to share the stress and rewards. For example: With the Listen and Learn song book - Rachel and I work together so that she handles the content and I handle the book making, money handling and orders. This way Rachel can do what she does best- create great songs to help people, and I can do what I enjoy (and hopefully do well)- handle the behind-the-scenes details. Now that the book is 'out' she can move on to her other projects and reap the rewards that you mentioned (increased branding and product diversification).

Hey there, Kimberly- I'd like to add my thanks to you for this very helpful post. I'm particularly interested in (someday) getting my act together and creating products to sell, and online is the way to go these days. I really appreciate your having taken the time to try all this stuff out and offer your experiences to the rest of us!

Your article was right on the money, Kimberly! :) I think your assessment of the different monetizing options were very fair and accurate. I once tried Kontera ads on my blog, but I didn't like them because they were the kind that underlines a word and has a box that pops up when you scroll over it. Those things drive me crazy when I am trying to read an article! I agree with you about Adsense being okay as long as it does not disrupt the flow of the blog too much. I have actually found some very interesting links on the Adsense ads.
